Our story
Hey you!
I'm Grant, co-founder of Goodlabs. Our story began in a New York City doctor's office, where a random blood test led to a surprising diagnosis: I have genetic hemochromatosis, a condition I've unknowingly had my whole life.
This means my body can't properly process iron, which had been silently accumulating in my organs. The solution? I now donate blood once a week (do not try this at home) to remove excess iron from my system. At the same time, I had to run around the city checking in with specialists about my iron levels, getting poked and prodded multiple times every week. I couldn’t understand why, if there was already a needle in my arm during donation, they couldn’t just run the blood tests. Here I was, desperately needing regular blood work to monitor my condition, while blood centers were desperately calling for new donors. Two problems with the same transaction: putting needles in arms.
So I quit my job, convinced my smartest friend to do the same, and now trying to make Goodlabs a reality. Since starting, we've had an outpouring of support from our thousands of early users, donors, and partners. Goodlabs saves lives, and it wouldn't be possible without them. So for that, we're forever grateful. Do good, feel better.

FAQ
Got questions? We’ve got answers
What is Goodlabs?
Goodlabs is a software platform that aims to create a blood surplus in the U.S. and democratize access to personalized health insights. Through partnerships with blood centers, we provide free biomarker tests to donors, offering an altruistic and affordable on-ramp to our tech-enabled wellness interventions.
Why is Goodlabs different than donating blood elsewhere?
In a normal blood donation, no news from the blood center is good news: they test the blood for infectious diseases and only tell you if it comes back positive. This life-saving process has been built to protect the recipient. Goodlabs works with your local non-profit blood center to now offer health and wellness testing to also help the donor - you! If your local blood center is not onboarded with Goodlabs, please send them this site and tell them to reach out to us (grant at hellogoodlabs). We'll get them up and running in no time.
Are the tests Goodlabs offer different than what I get at my doctors?
When your doctor prescribes you blood tests, they are limited by what they think insurance will cover. With most insurance plans, preventative blood tests would cost you hundreds of dollars out of pocket. With Goodlabs, these prohibitively expensive screenings are now available to anyone who donates blood!
If I can't donate blood, can I still use Goodlabs?
Yes, goodlabs platform is free for anyone, and we allow individuals to buy blood tests at the lowest cost, guaranteed.
Am I allowed to donate?
The best way to figure out eligibility is by going through our sign up process, where you’ll answer a few questions about your health. Do not rule yourself out of donating based on a past experience! Donor deferrals are quite rare.
I don't live in one of the supported regions, when will Goodlabs be available?
There are blood donation centers all across the country. If we do not yet partner with one in your area, we would love to work with you to make it happen! Please fill out the sign up form and respond to the follow-up email saying "Need Goodlabs here: [insert your area]!"
Why don't I just donate when there is an emergency?
There is a constant need for blood. Blood for emergencies relies on donations made days or weeks in advance of transfusion. Maintaining a steady supply is a critical challenge, as blood products have limited shelf lives. For more information on the need for donors, check out: https://donatingblood.org/
What do I do with my tests after I get them?
We offer non-medical advice via our platform via our AI chat-bot and asynchronous message based chat with board certified physicians. If you would like medical advice, please contact your primary care physician. If you do not have one, we can refer you to some physicians in our network.
Is Goodlabs like Theranos?
We only use CLIA certified labs to test your blood. The very same labs your doctor sends you to (i.e. Quest, LabCorp) run your tests. Theranos tried to take less blood, we're aiming to take more. Do good, feel better.
